what do you do when a live project exceeds its own ambitions? just keep doing the wonderful concerts and eventually head to the studio. sounds simple and conclusive. in the case of karocel, that was exactly how they went about it and surprisingly, all six band members made it happen. though the four marbert rocels, mathias kaden and michael-mitchi-nagler have known each other from their hometown along the gera-jena-erfurt corridor, and the karocel live shows have been well received: an album is an entirely different beast.

almost exactly three years after the first, redshape has readied his second red pack, due for co release by his own present imprint alongside his frequent dutch home, delsin. whilst the world is still enjoying the germans latest album square, the man himself has typically moved on once more. on red pack ii he offers up six tracks new of hugely atmospheric and romantically industrial techno across two pieces of vinyl.

more than six years into his career after several eps and a full album, there isn’t much known about ben gibson, and he is clearly keeping it that way with intent. gibson first emerged on jeff mills’ experimental, influential 6277 sublabel but then again vanished into the ether, he only reappeared three years later on perc trax, even more surprisingly with a full-length. since then, he’s gone on to steadily more notice with perc’s imprint, sect records, and most recently m_rec ltd in spite of the continuing lack of information. exposure isn’t the most important thing for us at chronicle though, and after hearing these five tracks, we saw exactly what it is that drew mills to him from the beginning. it is a sound that we find a perfect fit for the techno futurism of our chronicle series, and here we offer a platform for gibsons more sci-fi, ethereal sounding material, exclusively on vinyl for the fifth edition of our sublabel.

mule musiq now proudly presents eleven unreleased compositions by roedelius produced between 1990 and 2001. all of them are pearls of electronic deepness that show another side of the man that lives in the little lower austrian town baden. his famouse ultra sweet piano melodies can be heard – but they are not the centre of the productions. instead a more electronic side of his genius call the tune. with a minimalistic approach he let synth melodies highfly while some droney, melancholic atmospheres enlarge in the background.

with its non-placed devices and hard-to-pin-down aesthetic falling between electronic and psychedelic music and the warm-hued sounds of traditional acoustic instruments, burnt friedmans zokuhen,produced exclusively for vinyl, may be considered an extension of bokoboko. on this new double ep, too, the music focuses on uneven rhythms that dictate the groove for all the participating musical elements and display a formal logic to which all the instruments gladly succumb. with its even rhythm and proximity to dub reggae, the track kon ki (c2) shows that exceptions from the rule are permitted among the six new tracks and two re-worked bokoboko themes that round off this follow-up.

the belgian testtoon label rereleases artificial horizon, a track from the early 80s by the obscure english band shoc corridor. glacial, driving and surprisingly modern, artificial horizon was one of the six tracks on shoc corridors debut album experiments in incest. remix duties are performed by mordant music, who takes the original into his own universe, delivering a bubbling, industrial and spacious rework. the belgian bepotel takes artificial horizon into nu-house territory and testtoon artist oubys delivers a driving, modern techno remix, heavily based on the original.

our second release is by newcomer mint 4000. we are sure his anonymity will soon disappear. four tracks of intelligent, deep goodness, cuts of varying degrees of intensity to suit all intimate dancefloors. appian sounds is a vinyl only label based out of london with firm roots in dublin.
